25 years ago: Nov. 22, 1982

A salvage crew is making some progress in an attempt to raise the Dorothy, a towboat that sank near Gray's Point, Mo., with two men on board Nov. 12; the stern of the boat has been raised two to three feet off the bottom of the river;.

Cub Scout Pack 12 of Jackson, sponsored by the Evening Optimist Club in Jackson, is the recipient of the prestigious Tom C. Clark Award; Pack 12 was cited for clearing brush, raking leaves, and re-seeding the park grounds at Burfordville Mill.

50 years ago: Nov. 22, 1957

A new fire truck, built in Cape Girardeau to specifications of the city fire department, is in service at the No. 2 station on Independence Street; the truck, built on a Dodge chassis, cost $7,000.

Police were sent to the State College campus last night, when a crowd of about 100 male students milled about on campus and appeared to threaten raids on the two women's dormitories; police say the situation remained in hand, however, and didn't reach the proportions of a similar escapade last spring, when several hundred male students tried to break into the women's dorms and shouted and jeered at peace officers.

75 years ago: Nov. 22, 1932

Robert Reed, elected constable of Cape Girardeau Township on Nov. 8, today qualifies and succeeds C.C. Eddleman in that office.

More men are now being employed at the Federal Materials Co. plant in Cape Girardeau than at any other time in the history of the concern, which formerly was the Edward Hely Stone Co.; the payroll includes 125 men, who are busy seven days a week getting out stone used in federal government construction along the Mississippi River.

100 years ago: Nov. 22, 1907

Measles is prevalent in Cape Girardeau County; it about disrupted the baby show at Jackson yesterday and today; while there were a good many infants out to try for the prizes, the usual large number wasn't there.

After tomorrow night's performance, the Lyric Theater will be no more; the experiment of giving Cape Girardeans advanced vaudeville at popular prices didn't prove profitable; the popular little moving picture house, the Dreamland, will take over the quarters of the Lyric.
