25 years ago: Nov. 18, 1980

Loretta Schneider, twice an unsuccessful candidate for the Cape Girardeau City Council, becomes a candidate for the third time as she files for the council seat now held by Mayor Paul W. Stehr; Stehr has not announced whether he will run for a fourth term on the council.

Directors of the recently chartered South East Missouri Bank plan to ask the city council during Wednesday night's meeting for permission to install a temporary mobile bank facility on Broadview Street between Route K and Independence Street.

50 years ago: Nov. 18, 1955

Mr. and Mrs. Bill McCain have sold 277 acres of their land north of Neelys Landing in Love Joy Hollow to John E. Brown; most of the acreage in the area is now in the hands of the Brown family -- Edward F. Brown, the father, and his sons, Glenn, Freddie and John.

Contracts for improvements totaling about 14.3 miles on Route 25 in Cape Girardeau and Bollinger counties have been awarded by the State Highway Commission to Thompson Asphalt Co., Madison, Ill., and Paul Montgomery of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; work will include asphaltic concrete resurfacing in the two counties and installing a drainage structure south of Dexter, Mo.

75 years ago: Nov. 18, 1930

The Cape Girardeau City Council is discussing the possibility of establishing a board of public welfare, which would give relief to all persons worthy of aid as deemed after proper investigation.

The interior of the Hotel Idan-Ha is being redecorated by the new operators, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Decker, who recently moved here from Kansas.

100 years ago: Nov. 18, 1905

Edward Regenhardt, builder, says he will throw open the doors of the new academic hall at the Normal School tomorrow from 1 to 5 p.m.; he specially invites his hundreds of friends to be present and look over the building; he states, however, that if it should rain and the Normal grounds around the new building should become muddy, it won't be opened; he is at a point of turning it over to the state and cannot take the risk of having it damaged in any way.

The game at Farmington, Mo., between the Normal School and Carleton College football teams results unsatisfactorily; it is forfeited to the Normals soon after the beginning of the second half, when the Carleton team refuses to play without a man who had been sent from the game for foul playing; the first half ended in a tie.
