A spokesman for Rep. Bill Emerson's Washington office says the Cape Girardeau Municipal Airport's FAA Flight Service Station is scheduled to close sometime next fall; meanwhile, the FAA says it hasn't decided on whether it will place the Cape Girardeau station on a part-time operation after the first of the year.
A new administrative office building for Cape Girardeau County in Jackson is well underway and should be ready for county officials to move into by May.
The city of Cape Girardeau has been warned of possible adverse effects on future federal aid participation if $12,031 in advance payments to the Housing Authority here isn't repaid in the event the controversial public housing program is abandoned.
The old limestone block building built by the Louis Houck railroad interests on Independence Street may soon be razed; the three-story building was constructed in 1906, complete with flower gardens hemmed in with a stone wall, a water fountain and carefully designed sidewalks and steps; the building is now a ghostly hulk, scorched by a recent fire and standing barren amid weeds and piles of fallen brick.
As the Rev. E.J. Winstead, pastor of the General Baptist Church, is in Howell, Ind., conducting a revival, the Rev. Mason Thomas fills the local pulpit in the morning; the Rev. Carl Middleton preaches in the evening; both are members of the congregation.
Eight-day Preaching Missions, part of a national religious movement, begins at Jackson, Chaffee, Mo., Charleston, Mo., and other communities in the district, and will continue with services every night this week; many communities, including Cape Girardeau, in Southeast Missouri have set Nov. 29 to Dec. 6 as the dates for their Preaching Missions.
The steamer Cape Girardeau doesn't dock here until this morning, being nearly a day late because of the storm of Saturday night; the boat was delayed on its upstream trip.
Henry Brinkopf returned home last night from St. Louis, where he has been taking a course of embalming for the past few weeks.
