25 years ago: Nov. 15, 1985

Cape Girardeau County and the cities of Jackson and Cape Girardeau experienced increases in sales tax revenue last month over October 1984; the county took in $113,228.63 last month, Cape Girardeau received $171,995.02, and Jackson $27,195.61.

Southeast Missouri State University Indian defenders will face the acid test tomorrow when college football returns to Busch Stadium in St. Louis for the first time since 1970; the highly publicized game will pit Southeast against Northeast Missouri State.

50 years ago: Nov. 15, 1960

A space plan for a projected new junior high school, submitted last night to the school board by a committee of school officials, won approval and will be the basis for future discussions with architects; the proposed school would accommodate 800 to 1,000 pupils.

Two people were injured Monday in the 2400 block of South Sprigg Street near the Federal Materials scale house when a large rock fell off a truck and struck a passing automobile; injured were Jessie J. Todd, 48, and Loida Springmeyer, 22.

75 years ago: Nov. 15, 1935

Grover Crites, former star high school player with the Jackson Indians and end on the State College Indians gridiron team, is considering reporting to coach C.P. Harris for the basketball squad at the close of football season.

Col. Arthur C. Goebel, nationally known flying ace, is scheduled to appear over Cape Girardeau tomorrow afternoon in a novel exhibition of skywriting and communication between his plane and spectators on the ground; he will communicate via a two-way radio with a specially built Chrysler Imperial Airflow sedan, specially fitted with loudspeakers.

100 years ago: Nov. 15, 1910

In recent county court proceedings at Jackson, the court rejected several bids for wrecking the old county jail, saying they were too high; the court has also ordered highway engineer D. Scivally to build a steel bridge across the McCullough Slough, near Snider Mill.

Cape Girardeau city authorities will begin rebuilding the terraces on the east side of Courthouse Park soon and will also attend to the trimming of the trees there; the front terraces will be resodded.
