GRAY'S POINT, Mo. -- Coast Guard and area law enforcement officials are continuing their search for two men thought to have drowned when a towboat capsized and sank in the Mississippi River at Gray's Point early Saturday; the missing men are Odia D. Henderson of Cape Girardeau and James P. Shuffit of Scott City.

A round of applause greets the Cape Girardeau City Council's vote to re-introduce two-way traffic on Broadway between Pacific and Lorimier streets; the changeover date is set for May 1, 1983.

50 years ago: Nov. 15, 1957

The championship of the 1957 season of the MIAA Conference will be at stake Saturday when the Cape State Indians, leading the conference with three wins and one tie, take on the second-place Miners of Rolla, Mo., there; the Miners' conference record is three wins and one defeat.

Appointment of Billy W. Rose as county collector is recommended unanimously by the Cape Girardeau County Democratic committee at a special meeting at Jackson; Rose, who is associated with Unnerstall Drug Store, will succeed Robert Kirkpatrick, who died Nov. 9.

75 years ago: Nov. 15, 1932

Dr. William Godefroy assumes his duty as resident physician at Southeast Missouri Hospital, coming here from Spokane, Wash.; his work will be confined entirely to the hospital, where he will assist physicians with their patients.

An inventory of the closed Sturdivant Bank, now underway, won't be completed before the end of next week, says state examiner C.M. Duncan; the safety deposit vault will be opened to customers Thursday; those having boxes will be permitted to examine their contents and withdraw what they desire.

100 years ago: Nov. 15, 1907

In an adjourned session, Judge B.F. Davis of the Common Pleas Court disqualifies himself in the case in which three creditors of the Southern Metal and Manufacturing Co. have asked for the appointment of a receiver.

J.M. Jamison, a Methodist preacher, has been appearing at Jackson and has begun a series of prohibition meetings at the courthouse; many believe his efforts mean the beginning of a local option campaign in Cape Girardeau County.
