50 years ago: Nov. 11, 1953

Thirty-five years ago today World War I came to end; Cape Girardeau County had 1,369 men and women who served in that war, with 40 making supreme sacrifice; generation later came World War II, with 4,188 from county serving and 108 losing their lives.

More than 2,000 tons of northern hay have been ordered by Cape Girardeau County feed dealers, and part of it is in transit from northern tier of states under Missouri drought emergency relief program which pays freight from point of shipment.

75 years ago: Nov. 11, 1928

The Rev. Roy Blackburn of Mount Vernon, Ind., assumes his new duties as pastor of General Baptist Church; he succeeds the Rev. R.M. Barrett, who organized church more than a year ago.
