Demolition work began yesterday on homes along Lacey Street and Sunset Court in Cape Girardeau; an entire block of homes was purchased by Southeast Missouri Hospital to make room for a new parking lot for the hospital.
A U.S. District Court jury here Wednesday ruled there was no conspiracy on the part of Cape Girardeau and West Park Mall developers to block the development of Westborough Mall.

Jesse Millikan has contracted to buy the brick dwelling of Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Weiss on Perryville Road, together with 60 acres of land; the property, opposite the former Brick School, adjoins the farm of 63 acres which Mr. and Mrs. Millikan already own.
New officers of the Cape Girardeau District Barracks of World War I Veterans were elected yesterday; Arthur Vogelsang was selected commander to succeed A.S. Reed; other officers are senior vice commander Dr. Sylvester Doggett, junior vice commander W.P. Crites, judge advocate Roy Green, chaplain C.R. Brown, quartermaster E.E. Cowgill and trustee Archie Reed.

Abe Stuber's head is bending low as he leaves with his State College football Indians for the 29th meeting with the Carbondale, Ill., Maroons with several of his ace squadmen missing; a telling blow was delivered yesterday, when it was determined Hunter "Kong" Smith, 208-pound tackle, had failed to meet scholastic requirements and wouldn't be eligible to play; also absent will be halfbacks Orville Popp, Roy Hall and Harry Eskridge.
Capt. Edward F. Owen, after 30 years of service to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on the Mississippi River, has retired and is spending most of his time at his home at Illmo, Mo.
