Fruitland - Two rural Cape Girardeau County firefighters were hurt early yesterday when fire truck driven by one collided with pickup truck driven by fellow volunteer; men were speeding to fire call when accident occurred at intersection of Route C and CC in northeastern Cape Girardeau County; injured were Mike Meyer, 38, of New Wells area, and Revis Reisenbichler, 27, of Pocahontas; fire truck was total loss.
Privately sponsored baccalaureate might present alternative for Cape Girardeau Public Schools in light of Supreme Court ruling banning prayer at graduation; at last night's meeting, school district attorney Joseph Russell told Board of Education that district shouldn't sponsor baccalaureate service in light of last spring's ruling.

Apparent natural gas leak in or near boiler at Southern Oil Co. and Southern Cafe, 410 Morgan Oak, causes explosion in evening that blows out walls and windows of service station; attendant, Dale Brown of McClure, Ill., who is in station office, escapes serious injury and adjoining cafe isn't damaged in blast.
Southeast Missouri District Fair association meeting is held in evening, with Earl James, fair treasurer, reporting on economic status of annual fall exposition; he says Fair showed net profit of $11,660 this year, but there was net decrease in cash of $9,668.

Jefferson City - Gov. Forrest Smith lifts his executive ban against hunting and fishing in Missouri; purpose of ban, in effect since Nov. 1, was to prevent fires from going out of control in drought-ridden state; general rains over weekend, however, took away worst fire danger.
Announcement is made by Cape Drive-In Theater Inc. of purchase of 19-acre tract of land on old Hillcrest golf course on Highway 61 as site for new 750-car capacity drive-in theater, which is expected to open next spring; land was purchased from Mrs. M.E. Lesem; theater will bear name Starvue Drive-in.
75 years ago: Nov. 10, 1927
Newest developments in railroad fund drive are announcements of gift of $10,000 from Marquette Cement Manufacturing Co., and pledge of over $1,400 from employees of International Shoe factory; 17 two-men teams begin special "clean-up" drive of city in morning; they are to call on about 200 people in effort to raise remaining money to complete $60,000 fund.
Richard Moyle, general superintendent for Marquette Cement Manufacturing Co., while here on inspection of local plant, announces construction work has started to double storage capacity of Cape Girardeau plant; 16 silos - giant storage bins for cement - about as large as present ones at plant, will be erected.
