Thirty-two patients are transferred from old to new St. Francis Medical Center in precision operation which culminates more than 1 1/2 years of planning; move begins around 7:30 a.m. and concludes about 10:30 a.m. as last patient is loaded into back of moving van for final trip out William to new facility at Route K and Mount Auburn Road; other patients are transported by ambulances and ambulance bus.

First Sergeant Donald E. Franklin, 19, has been killed in action, telegram from Department of Defense informs his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Allen of Cape Girardeau; Franklin returned to front lines Aug. 14 after recovering from machine gun bullet wound received May 18; he had been promoted to sergeant, first class, after returning to his unit, Company G, 23rd Infantry Regiment, Second Division.
Apple harvesting is drawing to close this week in Cape Girardeau County, under cool sunshine that came little too late to produce bumper crop; apple growers say crop followed national trend in not being quite as large as last year.
75 years ago: Oct. 9, 1926
New York - St. Louis Cardinals defeat New York Yankees 10-2 in sixth game of World Series, tying series at three games each; teams will clash tomorrow in deciding game.
New Gardner Straight Eight combination ambulance and funeral coach was received by Lorberg Undertaking Co. last night and today is put to use; machine, with modern features, was purchased from Gardner Auto Co. of St. Louis and driven here; car has spacious compartment behind driver's seat, which may be used either for carrying casket or a cot.
