Debbie Jansen of Kelso, Missouri, was crowned queen of Activity Week last night at Notre Dame High School; her escort was Rob Dodson of Scott City; a total of $17,537 was raised.

Government officials inspecting potential sites for a new federal building in Cape Girardeau are expected to conclude their work today; 13 downtown sites are being considered.

The hiring of two new officers brings the strength of the Cape Girardeau Police Department up to its full quota; sworn in as probationary patrolmen are Eugene J. Gessert and Nyal R. Ravenstein.

Guest speakers fill the pulpit at both services at the First Baptist Church here in the absence of the pastor, Dr. H.H. McGinty; speaking at the morning service is Dr. S.D. Aubuchon, dean of the Southeast Missouri Baptist Foundation; preaching at the evening service is the Rev. L.E. Taylor, missionary for the Cape Girardeau and Charleston Baptist associations.

Thrown open to all Cape Girardeau artists, the second annual exhibition of local artists will be Nov. 3 through 5 in the Missourian Building arcade.

THEBES, Ill. -- The town council of Thebes fired the mayor and marshal at its Tuesday evening session; for some time it was known that trouble was brewing for the two officeholders; Arthur Brown was mayor and Joseph Smith marshal; the council appointed one of its members, Oliver Holmes, mayor and Nathan Kelly marshal.

To foreclose a mortgage on the property, the Southeast Missouri Trust Co. this week sold under the hammer the L.J. Albert property on Main Street and on Frederick Street; Mrs. Lee Cairns Albert, the widow, purchased the property.
