Reaganomics as a cure-all or economic epidemic charted much of the course of the second of four debates yesterday afternoon between candidates for the 10th Congressional District; a crowd of more than 300 jammed into Kent Library's Little Theater to hear the debate between incumbent Republican Rep. Bill Emerson and Democratic challenger Jerry Ford.

Several bottles of Extra-Strength Tylenol, bearing the same lot numbers as those found to contain cyanide in the Chicago area, have been found in Southeast Missouri, including at least one bottle purchased in Cape Girardeau.

50 years ago: Oct. 4, 1957

Construction work on the new Cape Osteopathic Hospital, to cost an estimated $1,500,000, will be started Monday, it is announced by Richard H. Giles, president of the Osteopathic Hospital Corp.

The first service for members of the newly organized St. Andrew Lutheran Church will be held Sunday afternoon at the congregation's property on Kingsway Drive; the Rev. Louis L. Pabor of Houston, formerly pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, will be guest speaker, and the Rev. Ralph C. Fessler, pastor of Trinity, liturgist.

75 years ago: Oct. 4, 1932

A resolution "to encourage city employees to meet their just obligations" was adopted yesterday by the Cape Girardeau City Council; commissioner Edward Willer, in charge of the department of accounts and finances, says he has received numerous complaints over the past several months from local merchants about city employees failing to pay their bills.

Midyear commencement exercises will be omitted this year at Central High School; economic reasons are the primary causes for the change.

100 years ago: Oct. 4, 1907

The football season begins tomorrow; the Normal School kickers will meet the Moothart College team from Farmington, Mo., and try to repeat the dose accorded the visitors last year.

The Lyric, Cape Girardeau's newest theater, will open Monday with a matinee specially designed for the ladies and children of the city; the special price for the matinee will be 20 cents for the front seats and 10 cents for seats farther from the stage.
