Telephone threat last week against Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney Bradshaw Smith has resulted in special protective measures being taken by county sheriff's department; Smith is receiving 24-hour protection from armed deputies, and his family has been moved out of town until security measures are set up at his home.

Outbreak of scabies at Lutheran Nursing Home has closed doors to visitors until Saturday; home voluntarily places itself under quarantine for safety of patients and visitors; only 10 of 120 patients are infected.

50 years ago: Oct. 30, 1953

Smoldering debris at site of Missouri Electrical Works Inc., destroyed by fire Wednesday night, are still being kept under surveillance by fire department; combustible material buried under piles of brick is still smoking, and firemen must keep wetting it regularly so it won't flare up.

Lt. Cmdr. Wayne Goddard, former State College football player and coach, has written friends here that he has received orders to leave Guam, where he has been stationed past 20 months, and report to Albany, N.Y., for new assignment.

75 years ago: Oct. 30, 1928

Members of city council give their endorsement to Proposition No. 2, which, if adopted, will provide for pension of veteran or disabled police officers and widows and children of deceased officers in city of St. Louis; proposal will be voted upon next Tuesday.

Contract for new super-service manual switchboard, to cost $60,000 and to be installed in new home of Cape Girardeau Bell Telephone Co., which will be built early in 1929 at intersection of Ellis and Broadway, has been let to Kellogg Switchboard and Supply Co. of Chicago.
