With 260 advance registrations received, members of the Cape Girardeau Jaycees expect at least 350 and maybe more state Jaycee members and their wives to attend the fall board meeting which gets underway here tonight.

James F. Stovall, doing business as Superior Concretors of Cape Girardeau, submitted a low bid of $10,811 for construction of an access walkway bridge from the new floodwall to the river gauging station and repair of bank paving here.

75 years ago: Oct. 28, 1935

Hundreds of people from Cape Girardeau and the district attend the afternoon meeting at State College auditorium to hear Robert Fechner, head of the Civilian Conservation Corps; Fechner arrived late Saturday and spent the weekend resting at the home of members of the Naeter family, to whom he is related.

Improved sound equipment, worth $1,500, is installed at the Fox Broadway Theater by Western Electric Co. workers; the electricians work all night to complete the installation; a new roof was put on the building last week, and workers are also redecorating the lobby; the front and canopy will be repainted in a few days.

100 years ago: Oct. 28, 1910

The home of Mrs. Pleas Snider of Jackson burns at noon, all contents being saved except the kitchen furnishings; Snider is downtown shopping, when the fire is discovered by Dr. F.R. Atkins.

Owing to the low stage of the river, the ferryboat Lorena Booth is now landing at the foot of Broadway, near the Frisco passenger station; E.M. Hobbs has changed his dock to that place and has gone to considerable expense in building a driveway of oak planks, leading from the docks to the levee.
