Despite decline in air traffic this year at Municipal Airport, airport development and improvement projects are in full swing; Airport Manager Mark Seesing says many current airport projects still will be funded by Federal Aviation Administration entitlements that are tied to airport boardings; boardings this month are about 600 behind pace last year, when barely 10,000 were reported.

Carbondale, Ill. - With major campaign speech by Jimmy Carter planned for Southern Illinois University campus tomorrow, security and crowd-control problems are being considered by local police; former Georgia governor will make 45-minute speech in free forum area, a grassy plot just north of McAndrew Stadium.

Members of Municipal Airport Board received assurance in Jefferson City yesterday that emergency repair allocation of $2,000 will be awarded city to seal repaired sections of runways and taxi-strips at airfield; request for funds to complete work was made by Rush H. Limbaugh Jr. and William H. Wescoat Jr. to governor's flood relief committee.
Millersville - Two buildings are destroyed and third one across street is damaged by fire this morning; origin of blaze is unknown, and amount of loss can't be estimated; destroyed are Nelson Store and adjacent Don Miller residence, which housed poolroom on first floor; Smith building across street to the south is damaged by intense heat of flames.
75 years ago: Oct. 25, 1926
Secretary of War Dwight F. Davis arrives in Cape Girardeau at noon and will speak this evening at Park Theater in interest of Republican party; also scheduled to speak is Mrs. Bessie Parker Brueggemann, former national committeewoman and leading figure in state work among women.
William Street, from Pacific to Boulevard, is opened for traffic, after being closed for three months while it was being paved; opening of this street, connecting two other paved thoroughfares, gives another connection to West End and residential district.- Sharon K. Sanders
