25 years ago: Oct. 23, 1985

An injured 2-year-old white tail buck that had earlier jumped through an apartment window and later collided with a vehicle is killed by Cape Girardeau police after it is cornered in a stairwell by St. Mary's School annex in the 200 block of South Sprigg Street.

ST. LOUIS -- Behind the hurling of lefthander John Tudor, the St. Louis Cardinals blank the Kansas City Royals 3-0, giving the winners a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven World Series.

50 years ago: Oct. 23, 1960

Dr. Hugh H. Deale, a dental missionary in the Central Congo area of Africa, speaks at a missionary rally at New McKendree Methodist Church at Jackson.

In recognition of the 31st anniversary of the laying of the cornerstone of the present building, the congregation of Christ Evangelical and Reformed Church observes Founders Day.

75 years ago: Oct. 23, 1935

Cold weather descends on Cape Girardeau following a series of rains; the mercury skids 20 degrees in 24 hours down to 45, bringing a real wintry touch.

A court test of the recently adopted city ordinance regulating working hours for barber shops in the city appears in the offing with reports to police that the new rules aren't being followed; the ordinance provides that a shop must be closed at 6:30 p.m., except Saturday, when the closing time is 9 p.m.

100 years ago: Oct. 23, 1910

The Rev. August Wilder, pastor, being absent, the pulpit at Trinity Lutheran Church is filled by the Rev. R. Weinhold of Concordia Seminary in St. Louis; Wilder is attending the sessions of the Lutheran synod at Concordia, Mo.

The Rev. F. Bemberg is installed as pastor of the Cape Girardeau Evangelical church by the Rev. F.W. Herman of Jackson.
