Cold weather descends on Cape Girardeau following a series of rains; the mercury skids 20 degrees in 24 hours down to 45, bringing a real wintry touch.

A court test of the recently adopted city ordinance regulating working hours for barber shops in the city appears in the offing with reports to police that the new rules aren't being followed; the ordinance provides that a shop must be closed at 6:30 p.m., except Saturday, when the closing time is 9 p.m.

100 years ago: Oct. 23, 1910

The Rev. August Wilder, pastor, being absent, the pulpit at Trinity Lutheran Church is filled by the Rev. R. Weinhold of Concordia Seminary in St. Louis; Wilder is attending the sessions of the Lutheran synod at Concordia, Mo.

The Rev. F. Bemberg is installed as pastor of the Cape Girardeau Evangelical church by the Rev. F.W. Herman of Jackson.
