50 years ago: Oct. 22, 1960

The Rev. Joseph F. Keusenkothen, V.F., pastor of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso, Mo., has been honored by Pope John XXIII with the title of domestic prelate; Monsignor Keusenkothen was born in Germany and was ordained to the priesthood in 1925 at Kenrick Seminary in St. Louis; he was named pastor of St. Augustine in 1940.

W.B. Harbison of Cape Girardeau yesterday bagged a deer with a bow and arrow, the first hunter of the county to get a deer in modern times with an arrow; he brought down the big doe near Sedgewickville, Mo., at a range of 40 yards.

75 years ago: Oct. 22, 1935

Cape Girardeau is facing a serious milk shortage, and a resulting disappearance of milk by-products from the market has occurred; dairy and milk company operators say the shortage is probably the most acute in five years.

The Whitledge Electric Co., 630 Broadway, has been purchased by B.B. Butz, and the name of the firm will be changed to Butz Sales Co.; W.P. Whitledge, former owner, will be sales manager for the establishment.

100 years ago: Oct. 22, 1910

That revolving door at the entrance of the new federal building is playing havoc with Cape Girardeau people; folks, unused to the twirling affair, often get whacked on the back, or even trapped between panels.

The first skating party of the season is given at the Crescent roller rink by Neoma Davis; participating are Elma Haman, Edna Maier, Irene Young, Narcissa Howard, Etta Montgomery, Susie Blumer, Willie Heise, Rue Trovillion, Elum McClain, Albert Miller, Lester Poe, Leo King and Edward Blumer Jr.
