Keynote speaker for the Lutheran Hour Rally this afternoon at the Central High School gymnasium is Dr. Oswald C.J. Hoffman, speaker of "The Lutheran Hour" since 1955; Hoffman's messages are broadcast weekly over more than 1,100 radio stations in the United States and Canada and in more than 30 other English-speaking countries.

The Rev. Dennis C. Johnson is the new pastor the Cape Bible Missionary Church; he comes to Cape Girardeau from the Bible Missionary Church in Troy, Ohio.

50 years ago: Oct. 21, 1954

More than 500 pounds of chili was consumed by more than 3,000 people at the Kiwanis Club's annual Chili Day, held yesterday in the Hecht building on Spanish Street; proceeds of the event will be used in community service, including aid to underprivileged children.

CHAFFEE, Mo. - Work has started on the new drive-in theater, to be known as the "Home of the Stars"; being built by Bob Capshaw and an associate group of men, the theater will be completed in 120 days; it is located on land owned by Capshaw a mile south of Chaffee on Highway 55.

75 years ago: Oct. 21, 1929

The annual Home Service Appeal for funds to carry on the work of the Salvation Army in Cape Girardeau during the coming year begins; the Army's budget for the year is $6,094.37.

Frank Dirnberger, a farmer living near Oran, Mo., is a patient at Saint Francis Hospital; he is being treated for a fractured right thigh bone, which he received when his right leg was caught in the wheel of a pea huller on his farm Saturday; Dirnberger, 44, is married with four children.

100 years ago: Oct. 21, 1904

It is stated by several men on the levee this morning that small flakes of snow were seen in the air around 10 a.m.; last night was the coldest of the season.

E.L. Walker, who was in Cape Girardeau three weeks ago conferring with prominent men about the location for a box factory, returns here in morning from St. Louis with assurances that he will bring his factory to town; all that has to be decided now is the location for the plant.
