Cornerstone Assembly Church conducts dedication day services in afternoon, with guest speaker being the Rev. Mickey Davis of Evansville, Ind.; church began holding services in individual's home in January and has grown to about 90 in Sunday morning worship attendance; in February, church purchased old Fischer's Market building at 298 N. West End Boulevard, and began extensive renovation for church use.

Congregation of Faith Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church honors the Rev. and Mrs. Doyle Randol for 30 years they have been in ministry.

25 years ago: Oct. 20, 1976

Request that free parking be instituted on trial basis at large Main and Spanish street parking lots downtown will be brought before City Council tonight by Metro Merchants Association; merchants feel that free parking in lots would stimulate trade.

Circuit breaker malfunction at Viaduct Substation at intersection of Highway 74 and Interstate 55 south of Cape Girardeau cuts power over wide area; affected by 24-minute electrical blackout is all of Cape Girardeau, about half of Jackson, communities of Gordonville, Dutchtown, Chaffee, Scott City, Illmo and Benton.

50 years ago: Oct. 20, 1951

Move to install classroom teacher as first vice president and heir presumptive to presidency of Southeast Missouri Teachers Association was beaten down at meeting of House of Delegates, ruling body of organization, yesterday.

Construction of 3,200-square-foot addition to V.F.W. post home on Kingshighway was approved last night by members of post, who voted to begin construction immediately.

75 years ago: Oct. 20, 1926

Southeast Missouri teachers assemble in Cape Girardeau for their annual meeting, which opens with general session in Teachers College auditorium in evening; in most instances, schools throughout district have been dismissed so that teachers may attend big convention.

Trying to beat famed record of steamer Robert E. Lee, motor boat Bogie, owned and piloted by Dr. Louis Leroy of Memphis, Tenn., physician and sportsman, is scheduled to pass Cape Girardeau some time after noon Saturday, if boat is able to keep within record set by river steamer 60 years ago; Bogie left New Orleans at noon Wednesday, and if it is to meet time set by Robert E. Lee, it will have to reach St. Louis Sunday morning; Robert E. Lee made 1,278-mile trip in 90 hours and 31 minutes.
