New Hamburg - Members of St. Lawrence Catholic Church congregation are hoping to restore first little log church of parish back to its original appearance; extensive work to structure, built in 1848, is expected to cost $21,450, and will include removal of siding from exterior walls, repairing exterior walls and roof, and restoring interior to its original appearance.

Republican party officials announce Sen. Richard Nixon, Republican candidate for vice president, will pay morning visit to Cape Girardeau on Oct. 21; tentative schedule sends Nixon on motorcade to Festus, Crystal City, Farmington, Fredericktown and Cape Girardeau; from Cape Girardeau, he will fly to Springfield.
75 years ago: Oct. 2, 1927
Closing his first year as pastor of Maple Avenue Methodist Church, the Rev. J.A. Bertram will go to St. Louis Conference this week with favorable report of church during past 12 months; 35 adult members have been added and nine infants have been baptized, while financial affairs of congregation are in satisfactory condition.
Favored by fair weather only part of its concluding day, annual Cape Fair closed Saturday night with attendance materially reduced by rain of early afternoon; few more than 7,000 people paid admission to Fairground Park Saturday, but this attendance was much smaller than in former years, when as many as 12,000 attended.
