Price for five acres of land on Clark Avenue for which option to purchase was taken last week by Cape Girardeau Public Library Board wasn't disclosed because of understanding with attorneys for sellers; board president, Dr. David A. Strand, says price and appraised value of property would be publicly released when sale is completed; that is likely to be by January.
50 years ago: Oct. 11, 1951
Avalanche of opposition, snowballing among owners of residential property in area after proposition was first broached, crushed City Plan Commission recommendation that area bounding on Bloomfield Street be rezoned from its existing one-family status to light industry classification.
Uniforms have been cleaned and shoes are in shop for gleaming coat of white polish, as Golden Troopers go through their last drill in evening before departing Saturday for Miami, where locals will take part in national drum and bugle corps championship.
75 years ago: Oct. 11, 1926
St. Louis - Victory of St. Louis Cardinals over New York Yankees by score of 3-2 yesterday sent thousands upon thousands of baseball-mad St. Louisans into hysterical frenzy of celebration that carries over to today; Manager Rogers Hornsby and 17 of his champion crew will be welcomed back to their home camp late tonight.
H.B. Newman, manager of Missouri Utilities Co., announces plans to build modern, $40,000 gas plant in Cape Girardeau, with work to begin within three weeks.
