Cape Girardeau County Public Administrator Dorris Young files for re-election to a third term in office; Young, a Democrat, was appointed to the post in June 1980 by Gov. Joe Teasdale and was re-elected to full terms in 1980 and 1984.

Dr. Homer R. Bolen, a professor of zoology at Southeast Missouri State University from 1932 to 1970, died yesterday at age 86.

1963

The icy stranglehold locked on Cape Girardeau for the last week shows little sign of relaxing; the temperature skids to 10 degrees below zero, the fourth day of the last six of subzero readings; water lines continue to freeze, some residents find their heat inadequate, and the Mississippi River ice jam worsens.

Jack Kohrumel is honored as Cape Girardeau's Outstanding Young Man of 1962 during the annual Jaycees' Bosses' Night Banquet at Colonial Restaurant; Raymond Lee Rampley of Jackson Route 2 is named Outstanding Young Farmer of Cape Girardeau County.

Dr. W.S. Dearmont, who retired last year as dean of the school of education of Southwestern Louisiana Institute at Lafayette, has been elected by the State Teachers College Board of Regents as president emeritus at a salary of $1,500 per year; Dearmont, 71, has been residing in Cape Girardeau since his retirement last May.

Fred A. Grove, who last week was reappointed to the Teachers College Board of Regents, has been elected president of that board, succeeding George Munger of Bloomfield, Mo., who resigned.

Venerable Mother Cassimira, Mother Superior of the Order of St. Francis, was in Cape Girardeau several days, accompanied by her architect, to take the first steps toward the construction of a new hospital here; while here, a number of local businessmen met with her, reassuring the head of the Franciscans of Cape Girardeau's loyalty to the hospital.

A.C. Jaynes brought his ferryboat back to Cape Girardeau from Fayville, Ill., yesterday and this morning begins making regular trips to the east side of the river; with ice gone from the stream and the quarantine lifted, the ferry is sure to do good business.
