Cape Girardeau has been chosen as the site for a new outpatient clinic sponsored by the Mississippi Valley Chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association; the clinic, which will operate at Saint Francis Medical Center, is one of more than 200 hospital-affiliated clinics throughout the nation funded by the association.

Missouri Treasurer James Spainhower, a Democratic candidate for governor, lashed out at Gov. Joseph P. Teasdale's 1980 budget at a news conference last night at the airport, saying it would turn the state "into another New York City, another Cleveland, another Lockheed, another Chrysler."

50 years ago: Jan. 25, 1955

Earth tremors along the New Madrid Fault were reported last night by at least five Arkansas cities and at various points in Missouri and Tennessee; in Missouri, the tremors were felt at Caruthersville, Sikeston and Poplar Bluff.

Carlston Bohnsack, county recorder and member of the Cape Girardeau school board, was presented the Distinguished Service Award of the Cape Girar-deau Jaycees at a dinner meeting last night at the Airline.

75 years ago: Jan. 25, 1930

The question of disposal of the city's garbage will be considered Monday at a special meeting of the city council; at present the disposal of garbage is provided through contracts with C.F. Blattner, Louis O'Howell and Clarence Kinder; these three haul away refuse by sub-letting the city into smaller district contracts, and use it for hog feed.

Police chief H.F. Wickham advises Girardeans that he will rigidly enforce the city ordinance providing that snow and ice be removed at once from sidewalks in the city.

100 years ago: Jan. 25, 1905

After a 22-year effort, Cape Girardeau gets a federal court; the Senate passes a bill creating a new division in the eastern judicial district of Missouri, with Cape Girardeau as the location of the federal court; the judicial district will include the counties of Cape Girardeau, Scott, Mississippi, New Madrid , Pemiscot, Dunklin, Butler, Stoddard, Ripley, Carter, Oregon, Shannon, Reynolds, Wayne, Madison, Bollinger and Perry.

During the 24 hours preceding last midnight, the temperature fell about 30 degrees; at midnight it was 4 degrees above zero.
