Thieves last night entered Hartung's key and gun repair shop, 600 Broadway in Cape Girardeau, and carried away seven boxes of ammunition; William Hartung owns the business.

Recently appointed executive director for the Otahki Area Girl Scouts, Mrs. Paul Spitzmiller of Cape Girardeau began her duties Monday; she will serve as coordinator for troop leaders, the council and committee chairmen.

75 years ago: Jan. 24, 1932

A plan of finance, which will decrease the annual budget burden in the form of smaller payments on the principal of the bonded indebtedness of First Baptist Church, has been worked out by the finance committee and the Lafayette South Side Bank of St. Louis; some difficulty was experienced in raising the $4,000 annual payment the past two years.

The Rev. J.W. Ellis, pastor of Grace Methodist Church, has been chosen leader of the Methodist Episcopal churches making up the Warrenton, Mo., district; he will supervise church work at Gordonville, Fruitland, Perryville, Appleton, Marquand and Lutesville.

100 years ago: Jan. 24, 1907

Capt. J.M. Craig of the ferryboat Warsaw has thrown down an ultimatum to the Cape Girardeau City Council and the merchants of the city; almost a year ago, Craig asked the council for a rate increase for ferriage across the river; the council never ruled on the matter; Craig's figures show he operates the boat at a loss; he intimates that he will quit the ferry business altogether unless he is given permission to raise rates.

George A. Tomlinson and daughter, Blanche, of Chaffee, Mo., are in town buying supplies for their hotel at the railroad village.
