Cape Communications Corp., owned by Tom and Judy Millburg, has begun construction of its new office building at 615 Broadview St., with Chuck Moutell Construction Co. as general contractor.

50 years ago: Jan. 20, 1960

Mayor Walter H. Ford becomes the first candidate to file his petition with Verna Lee Landis, city clerk, for nomination at the city primary March 22; Ford files for the post he now fills on council appointment through a vacancy created in 1956 by the resignation of Narvol A. Randol.

The cold temperatures have placed a layer of ice on the lagoon at Capaha Park, but it is still too thin for skating.

75 years ago: Jan. 20, 1935

New members of three Baptist churches in the district are baptized in the afternoon and evening services at Red Star Baptist Church; those baptized are from Red Star and churches at Fornfelt and Perryville, Mo.

The Rev. D.E. Luttrell, evangelist and pastor of the tabernacle at Elkhart, Ind., speaks at the Gospel Center, 111 Themis St., in the afternoon; his topic is "The Six Days of Creation."

100 years ago: Jan. 20, 1910

D.A. Glenn has again assumed active management of his big Cape Girardeau stores on Main Street.

Skiffs crossing the river are compelled to play "skip-loo" with the cakes of floating ice; no ferryboat is running here at the moment, the regular craft having been carried off by the ice in December.
