1989

The Cape Girardeau County prosecuting attorney's office ended 1988 with a record number of cases being filed; more than 1,200 cases were filed last year, including 418 felony cases, 605 misdemeanor and 38 search warrants.

Air Evac will replace the helicopter based at Saint Francis Medical Center as soon as a new aircraft can be located, says Tom Sharp, vice president of the company; no decision, however, has been made by the hospital's board of directors to continue or discontinue the helicopter service.

1964

Fire and Health Commissioner U.G. Pettigrew files his candidacy for a new four-year term in office;

The Allgood Motor Co., the Volkswagen automobile agency in Cape Girardeau, is under new ownership; the proprietor is Jack Adams of Kirkwood, Mo., president of the corporation that bought the assets of the firm headed by Laymon Allgood; the business, at 208 Linda St., is now being operated under the name of Adams Sales and Service Inc.

1939

For the second day in a row, the mercury in Cape Girardeau tops the 60-degree mark; so balmy was the weather yesterday, they played golf on the Country Club course, with H.E. Sproat, Maj. Bert W. Wampler, U.G. Pettigrew, T.T. Ferguson, H.B. Newman, L.W. Simmons, Maurice Bohnsack, H.F. Busch and others seeking to learn how many strokes they lost during the short winter.

Sheriff Fred Hartle appoints Robert Reed as his deputy; until November, Reed was constable of Cape Township; he was succeeded as constable by Eugene Brunk, who had been a deputy sheriff.

1914

Another change in the affairs of the Shawnee poultry farm has taken place, as O.E. Eggimann has sold some of his stock back to the original stockholders at Shawneetown, and the plant has been moved back to that city; it had been hoped the farm would locate near Jackson.

The committee representing the Cape Girardeau School Board returned last night from a trip to St. Louis, Clinton, Mo., and Columbia, Mo., where members investigated public schools that have been constructed in recent years.
