50 years ago: Jan. 15, 1957

A proposed reorganization of the Cape Girardeau Police Department, submitted by Commissioner J.L. Wieser at the city council meeting yesterday, brought on a warm, lengthy discussion before the councilmen finally overrode Wieser's request for immediate approval of the plan.

The processing plant of the Sunny Hill Poultry Co., now located on Highway 61 south, will be moved to Cabool, Mo., as soon as a new building can be built there.

75 years ago: Jan. 15, 1932

Plans for the annex to the Cape Girardeau post office, for which bids are to be received at Washington Monday, call for the construction of an addition 48 feet long and for drives about the plot.

Extension of the Missouri Pacific Railroad west of Highway 61 at Cape Girardeau's western city limits is completed; the tracks were extended about 300 feet to accommodate an oil base of the Airline Oil Co., which will be a bulk storage plant and retail outlet there; a tourist camp is also planned in connection with the project.

100 years ago: Jan. 15, 1907

After a dainty meal of braunschweiger, leberwurst, schwartenmagen, schmierkase and schnittlauch, members of the Amalgamated Association of Pinochle Players of America and Germany open a pinochle tournament at the group's Broadway club rooms.

Albert Ziegler, aged about 55, dies in the morning at his home at the northwest corner of Spanish and Good Hope streets in Cape Girardeau; Ziegler spent the greatest part of the time out of the city and only returned here shortly before Christmas.
