At a news conference yesterday, Saint Francis Medical Center officials outlined the status of the center's new neurological facility and introduced Dr. Yong Kie Kim, Cape Girardeau's first neurosurgeon.

Robert E. Gass, Cape Girardeau city park superintendent and airport manager, will resign his posts on March 1, leaving city government after almost 24 years of service.

50 years ago: Jan. 12, 1960

A simulated river flood is part of a two-week exercise here on flood problems from St. Louis south to the Gulf; a two-hour period each day simulates a day of actual flooding.

Gustav B. Margraf, 44, who last April was named general solicitor of the Reynolds Metal Co., has been elected vice president of the company by its board of directors; Margraf is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William A. Margraf of Cape Girardeau.

75 years ago: Jan. 12, 1935

A grounds and building committee for Hillcrest Golf Course has been named; C.J. Strom is chairman, and other members are Jack Kilgore and Otto Vogt; the committee will plan for beautification of the grounds around the clubhouse and for remodeling part of the clubhouse.

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- An interclass basketball game between girls' teams, played here last night as a preliminary to a conference contest, nearly broke up in a riot when small boys released 22 field mice on the gymnasium floor; pandemonium reigned among players until a referee restored order.

100 years ago: Jan. 12, 1910

Commercial Club president I.R. Kelso announces the creation of a committee that will confer with the sisters of Saint Francis Hospital and devise the means for raising $20,000 for a new hospital; the committee members are D.A. Glenn, J.H. Himmelberger, W.H. Bohnsack Jr., Dr. H.L. Cunningham and Dr. R.F. Wichterich.

M.E. Lesem, manager of Roth Tobacco Co., has just returned from a trip to St. Louis and other points where he has been introducing some of the new tobacco brands of the company.
