75 years ago: Jan. 12, 1927
Construction of 40-room hotel, to cost in excess of $40,000 and to be built on South Main street, between Merriwether and William, by M.E. Lesem, will start latter part of this week; new structure - second of two hotel buildings to be constructed in Cape Girardeau this year - will be located on lot owned by Lesem, within few blocks of west terminus of future Mississippi River traffic bridge.
New Madrid - Authorities confirm that on different occasions, currency with burned edges has shown up at two banks in New Madrid County, and they believe that money is part of loot taken in robbery of Morehouse Trust Co., in December; currency with charred edges and whole burned in center was found in Bank of Lilbourn last week.
