Don and Betty Hanscom of Jackson renewed their wedding vows in a candlelight ceremony as part of a celebration of 50 years of marriage. The dinner and reception was held Jan. 9 at Jackson Senior Center.

Mike Rice acted in the role of minister for the renewal of vows. Charles Hutson read scripture, addressed the guests, and gave the meal blessing.

Hanscom is from Maine and Mrs. Hanscom from Massachusetts.

He served 29 years in the U.S. Navy, retiring in 1984 as master chief. The couple then moved to Jackson.

Hanscom was with Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department 16 years, where he was a dispatcher, court bailiff, sergeant, and retired in 2000 as a lieutenant. Mrs. Hanscom was a child care provider.

The Hanscoms have two daughters, Donna and Barbara.
