Mr. and Mrs. James W. Abernathy of Cape Girardeau celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with a family luncheon at their home.

Abernathy and Mary Margaret Brorein were married June 7, 1941, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Brorein in Parma, Mo.

The couple lived in Sikeston, Mo., most of their married life. He farmed and his wife was a music teacher in Sikeston Public Schools. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.

The Abernathys have two daughters, Nancy Haertling and Karen Fox of Cape Girardeau; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
