BIG ELAM VANGILDER IS NOW WITH BROWNS
Big Elam Vangilder, former Capaha baseball pitcher and later a pitcher in the Western League, has joined the St. Louis Browns of the American league.
Last Saturday night, Vangilder was married to Miss Helen Masterson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eli Masterson. Early Monday morning he departed for St. Louis to join the big league aggregation.

REIMS, France -- Germany surrendered unconditionally to the Western Allies and Russia at 7:41 p.m. Cape Girardeau time Sunday.

Dazed Jackson residents walked down their debris-strewn streets late Tuesday, flashlights their only illumination as they surveyed damage from a tornado that cut a northeasterly path through the city.
