The first in a series of play readings will be presented Sept. 7 at Southeast Missouri State University.
"Where the Lilies Grow," a play by Dr. Kenn Stilson, will be presented at 7 at the Lab Theatre, Room 104 in the Grauel Building. Stilson is the new chairman of the Department of Speech Communication and Theater at the university.
The reading will be directed by Dr. Roseanna Whitlow, a member of the department. The play is about a vivacious young woman in a stormy marriage who befriends a gifted retarded boy. Through their relationship, she confronts the truth about her life and makes a difficult decision.
Staged readings are rehearsed, but movement is limited, placing the emphasis on the script.
Seating is limited. The play is recommended for mature audiences.
Admission is free, and refreshments will be served after the performance.
Other performances in the series are scheduled for Oct. 19, Jan. 18, Feb. 8 and March 1.
