Somewhere in Time is one of Cape Girardeau's premier antique shops; the store is owned by none other than Cape Girardeau jewel Paula Haas. Paula is one of the most vibrant women I've met since rediscovering my hometown. I had a Q&A with Paula to ask questions I've always wanted to know and to find out what this renaissance woman has in store for 2014:...

Somewhere in Time is one of Cape Girardeau's premier antique shops; the store is owned by none other than Cape Girardeau jewel Paula Haas. Paula is one of the most vibrant women I've met since rediscovering my hometown.

I had a Q&A with Paula to ask questions I've always wanted to know and to find out what this renaissance woman has in store for 2014:

How long have you been in the antique business?

Haas: I've been in the antiques business since 1998.

What is your favorite part about the job?

Haas: My absolute favorite part about my job is that I love what I do. I love working with treasures from the past as well as working with people. I'm a people person!

What does having a shop by the river mean to you?

Haas: Having my shop by the river gives everyone, including me, a daily chance to enjoy the Mississippi as well as enjoy the historic downtown Cape Girardeau has to offer. We are a community and we enjoy the atmosphere of our quaint and cozy area.

What are your best-selling items?

Haas: My best-selling items vary from month to month depending on the trends in collecting. By far, however, I would have to say that my antique and vintage jewelry is what I am known for. Our "mantiques" are popular also. I also have gift registries and rentals available, so on any given day anything could go out the door. My mission is to have something for everyone.

What should we expect to see more of at Somewhere in Time for 2014?

Haas: Somewhere in Time Antiques' goal for 2014 is to help each customer find just what they are looking for! I also want to help that person looking for a gift registry that suits their needs and lifestyle. Our rental possibilities are growing. The ideas are endless as to who could use our items for an event, photo shoot, etc.

Tell us about the new community Facebook page "Cape's Antique Looking Glass."

Haas: Three (antique shop owners) wanted to have an antiques district page that would enlighten people about what we have to offer as a community. There are 12 shops, and we try to tell customers in our shops about the other places to visit by giving them an antiques guide. However, I was iced in at home and kept thinking that this needed to be done now. So, we talked as a group and I pulled it together! It's a hit and growing quickly!

Our Facebook page has been created to help you find and shop our amazing antique shops and malls in historic downtown Cape Girardea, Mo. "Like" our page and you will be kept "in the know" about current events, shop hours, etc. You will be able to ask questions and directions!"

I feel this is going to help all of us, as well as the downtown area, and I love doing it!
