DETROIT (AP) -- Nicklas Lidstrom, Brendan Shanahan and Henrik Zetterberg each had a goal and an assist as the Detroit Red Wings beat the St. Louis Blues 4-2 Tuesday night.
The defending Stanley Cup champion Red Wings (6-1-0) scored three times in the first period.
Sergei Fedorov opened the scoring at 6:44 when he tipped in a pass from Zetterberg. Lidstrom was credited with a goal just 1:23 later when his rebound was mistakenly knocked into the St. Louis net by Steve Dubinsky of the Blues (3-3-0). Shanahan added a power-play goal with 6:09 left in the period when he jammed in his own rebound.
St. Louis made it 3-1 in the second period when Peter Cajanek put in a cross-crease pass from Pavol Demitra with 5:37 left.
The Blues closed the gap to 3-2 with 4:43 left when Cory Stilton put in a pass from behind the net. But Zetterberg scored an empty-net goal with 4.4 seconds left.
