1. Evaluate the progress of the county road improvement program. Has it met the expectations of voters who approved the sales tax in August 2006? If not, why not?
Answer: Somewhat. The overlay program needs to be done in a timely manner and that has not been done.
2. Should the county commission enact the storm-water control ordinance that has been under consideration for the past several years? If yes, how should it be enforced? If no, are you opposed because of particular provisions in the ordinance or because of a philosophical opposition?
Answer: Yes, the contractors of residential and commercial developments should bear the burden of storm-water retention.
3. Should county commission meetings be broadcast on the Web or on public access cable TV? Explain.
Answer: No. Almost all meetings are open to the public and the commissioners can be contacted through phone or mail on all issues.
4. How do you feel about the city of Cape Girardeau's discussions of peripheral zoning?
Answer: I would agree if and only if Cape Girardeau is to annex those areas into the city limits.
5. What makes you the best candidate for the position?
Answer: There are many reasons. First, I love Cape Girardeau County and want to keep the allure for future generations. I grew up on a small farm in Cape Girardeau County and worked for farmers and had part-time jobs through graduation from Jackson High School. Thus, I am very familiar with hard work and the local needs and issues. I graduated from college and was employed throughout the area for more than seven years but felt drawn back to our community.
Second, being an independent and successful business owner, I've learned how to create and balance budgets. I also set my own schedule, where I make and meet deadlines.
Third, I've been very active in the community for more than 20 years. I've been on administrative and advisory boards, and I've presided in and over committees and civic organizations.
Fourth, I have no hidden agendas or axes to grind. I want to do what is right and the best for all of Cape Girardeau County.
Fifth, I am very personable and have a can-do positive attitude on life. I come with fresh perspectives and ideas, plus I will bring a tremendous amount of energy and passion to the commissioner's office.
Finally, my bride Jan and I have a family of two fantastic kids and two energetic grandchildren. I want to keep Cape Girardeau County an attractive area for them to live in the future.
