Board member of Foundation 32

__What is the most important issue facing Perryville Public Schools? What can be done about it?__

As usual, there are many issues facing the district. Financial issues are always in the forefront. Test scores have room for improvement. State and federal requirements are ever changing. I don't believe a person can choose a "most important" issue. A board member can not have an agenda in mind and fairly serve the district. We have to work together to do what is best for the students.

__What in your background or education makes you qualified for this office?__

I previously served on the Perry County District 32 Board of Education for 9 years. During that time I achieved Master Certified Board Member Status with Missouri School Board's Association.I continued to participate in educational opportunities throughout my board service. My family and I are all graduates of district 32. My education, experience, and sincerity to the district qualify me for the office.

__Where do you stand on the issue of Common Core standards?__

I like the idea of common core standards. I think it is important for our states to have a common curriculum because we are such a transient society. I am concerned about the additional resources needed to implement the new standards, provide professional development, and update curriculum to meet the standards. We also have to have adequate computer technology to conduct the required assessments. Financial strains are already a huge issue for school districts.

__Do you think the Perryville School District is a good place for teachers to work? Why or why not?__

Perryville School District is a great place for teachers to work. The teachers have good benefits that are currently paid in full by the district. Salaries are as competitive as they can be. The district meets standards on class sizes. I believe the administration and staff are supported and respected by the board of education. The community is very supportive of education in general and specifically of our teachers.
