__What is the most important issue facing the Oak Ridge School District, and what can be done about it?__

In the near future, the majority of new jobs created will require education beyond high school. It is important that our students are well-prepared. I will support the administration and the faculty in their efforts to prepare students for college. The new dual credit program has been a tremendous asset to our students. I would like to see all students have access to these courses, regardless of their ability to pay.

__What in your background or education makes you qualified for this office?__

Currently, I work at Mingo Job Corps as a lead instructor. I spend most of my day with students ages 16-24 so I have a good understanding of the role of a teacher in a classroom setting. As the director of the heavy equipment department, I am responsible for the budget and maintaining educational standards, regardless of budget constraints. I am proud that our program consistently receives the highest rating available.

__What is your view on Common Core educational standards?__

I understand the concepts that Common Core hopes to accomplish. I want to support innovate teaching that inspires kids to learn. As we look into the future, we know many of our teachers are preparing to retire. Replacing these teachers with highly qualified educators should be our top priority. I feel that the School Board should work with the administration to use every means possible in the recruitment of qualified new teachers.

__Do you think the Oak Ridge School District is a good place for teachers to work? Why or why not?__

Yes, I believe this is a great place to work. The school has an outstanding reputation in this region. I am running for School Board because I am proud of this district. I will work to maintain this standard of excellence.
