Menard's a major retailer opened shop in 2013, after completing construction of its store at Siemers Drive and Bloomfield Road. The $8 million project -- which included a 162,340-square-foot retail store, garden center and lumber warehouse -- was Cape Girardeau's first large retail development since 2006, when both Sears Grand and Kohls opened off Siemers Drive.
__July 25, 2011__ -- It was announced that construction would begin in mid-August on a Menards home improvement center. Menards closed on a 16-acre site at the southwest corner of Siemers Drive and Bloomfield Road from a Drury subsidiary in June.
__May 15, 2012__ -- The Menards Mega Store opened for business, bringing about 160 jobs to the area.
