Chaffee running back and linebacker Dylan McAlister spent the past two weeks playing only defense because of an aggravated shoulder and a bruised thigh. But he returned to the backfield Friday night to help the Red Devils end a 21-game losing streak to rival Scott City.

McAlister had 17 carries for 80 yards and caught two passes for 38 yards. He also scored two touchdowns in Chaffee's 21-19 win.

"He gives us an added dimension back there because he's a good blocker and a good ball carrier," Red Devils coach Charlie Vickery said. "That way [opposing defenses] can't key on any one person."

McAlister, who now has 40 carries for 187 yards, is joined in the backfield by fullback Steven Atkinson and fellow running back Jerrod Steger.

"He is one of the kids who never misses an offseason workout," Vickery said. "He was here all summer and he played basketball and he plays other sports as well so he's always involved and he's an extremely tough individual and he's really dedicated to what he's doing. He's one of those kids who you never have to get on to him for having a poor practice. He's always gives 100 percent all the time."
