From the beginning in 1912 to today, when the orange and black of Central clash with the red and black of Jackson, it is best to get out of the way.

The early years of the rivalry saw both teams fairly evenly matched, with the first 36 games in the series having the two teams deadlocked in the series at 16-16-4. While the rivalry is still heated today, an incident in 1914 caused the two teams to temporarily end their relationship.

After splitting a pair of games in 1912 and not meeting in 1913, Jackson and Cape met three times in 1914. Jackson won two of three, but a fight marred the series. The fight, which started out between a player from Cape and a player from Jackson, turned into a near riot which involved fighting between players and spectators.

The series did not resume until 1919, when Jackson swept both games that year. Today the series stands at 56-34 in favor of Central, with seven ties.

Central has had several periods of dominance, including stretches -- 1941 to 1950 and 1963 to 1974 -- during which the Tigers did not lose to Jackson. Jackson's longest winning streak in the series is six in the early years of the rivalry, but recently the Indians have won eight of the past 10 meetings between the two teams.
