Previous offices held/sought: State Representative -- District 159 (2005-2010)

Question 1: Missouri has seen two straight years with steep declines in revenue. What programs should be cut or eliminated to reduce spending?

Answer: The Appropriations and Budget Chairmen and the Governor's staff have and will continue to scrutinize all programs for accountability and prevent waste, fraud and abuse in all departments. We must protect our state workers and provide them with the skills, training and technology to meet these tough times with less stress and improve productivity through a fair and sustainable workload! We must continue to fund critical programs for our most needy citizens.

Question 2: Federal highway funds are projected to be cut dramatically. Would you consider asking voters for a tax increase to fund highway construction. Why or why not?

Answer: A bond issue similar to Amendment 3 that the voters passed in 2004 by a 4-1 margin and this provided millions of dollars for new roads and highway improvements. The voters thought this was a fair process.

Question 3: Should the use of tax credits for economic development be expanded, curtailed or eliminated? Why?

Answer: Wise use of tax credits has and can continue to encourage companies to grow in Missouri and entice new companies to relocate to our state. We must insure that a good return on credits is balanced.

Question 4: What is the most important state issue for constituents in the 159th District?

Answer: Jobs, economic growth, continue to improve exports for agriculture and business products. Removal of the death (inheritance) tax on our farms. Affordable malpractice insurance for doctors. Continue to fully fund education. Provide assistance to veterans and their families. Access to affordable health care. Protect our state sovereignty.

Closing remarks: I have been honored to serve the people of District 159 the past six years. Thank you for placing your trust and confidence in me. We have accomplished much by passing bills to assist seniors, veterans, protect the unborn, maintain traditional family values, keep children safe, fund education and roads, crack down on meth, protect our gun rights, assist farmers and create new jobs. There are still important issues pending to complete with your support.
