The hardest part: "Thinking I might not live to see my children grow up. I have two grown children, and now I have four grandchildren."
Her advice for others: "Be positive, dream big and never give your dreams up. After my bouts with cancer I was named Missouri Teacher of the Year and got to meet the president of the United States."

Years battling breast cancer:One month. "It was caught early on my mammogram. I had a double mastectomy and didn't have to have any chemo or radiation."
Years surviving: One and a half
The hardest part: "Recovery after the surgery. The healing and the pain."
Her advice for others: "First of all, I think they should pray a lot. Find out as much as you can about it. Information is everywhere now. There are so many things you can do and a lot of options out there."
