Charles "Chuck" Brian Dobbs
AGE: 38
FAMILY: Wife, Lori; children Chandler, Braeden and Parker
EMPLOYER: Southeast Missouri Hospital -- HealthPoint Rehab
POSITION: Physical therapist/certified athletic trainer
COMMUNITY AND PROFESSIONAL INVOLVEMENT: Athletic trainer for Kelly High School; athletic trainer for Charleston High School (football); youth sports coach for soccer, baseball; soccer referee (SEMSA); previous board member of the Cape Road Runners; lifetime member of the Illinois River to River Runners
HIS TYPICAL DAY:
When dealing with the public in a health-care environment, no day is typical. I evaluate and treat various orthopedic conditions that have been referred for physical therapy. After a full day in the clinic I volunteer as an athletic trainer for a local high school where I provide medical coverage to the various teams. This includes performing pre-game activities, game coverage and post game treatments.
MOST SATISFYING PART OF HIS WORK:
Helping people overcome injuries and seeing them resuming their lives; be that work, sports, or just everyday activities. I still a get a rush seeing "former" athletes that I helped while they were in school come back and thank me for being around. I've so many good friends which I have met because of my occupation.
HIS WORST HAIRCUT:
Could it be worse than now? Seriously? Maybe the '80s "part down the middle big hair." Sorry; no mullet in my past!
HIS FAVORITE SONG FROM THE '80s:
I was a pretty big "head banger" so I'd have to say "One" from Metallica. Although those power ballads will still get me.
MOST EMBARASSING WORK MOMENT:
While working at a busy outpatient clinic in Carbondale, Ill., I was filling a whirlpool for a patient. I got very busy with another patient and forgot about the filling whirlpool -- for about an hour. Needless to say, the whirlpool room was quite flooded, as was the back of the clinic, the adjoining treatment room, and the back storeroom. Oops.
