For five years the Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau has named women of achievement in the community, and this year's award again exemplifies the many outstanding accomplishments of the winner, Denise Stewart.
Stewart was for many years the executive director of the Otahki Council of the Girl Scouts. She also was involved in many other community activities. Throughout the years, her emphasis on meeting the needs of others set her apart. It was with some sadness that her many friends and associates said farewell as she left for new responsibilities in Little Rock, Ark., but it was a major gain for Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas as Stewart took on the duties of president and chief executive officer of Girl Scouts-Diamonds for those states.
By honoring Stewart with its award, Zonta has recognized her many accomplishments, both professional and personal.
Eight other women were nominated for the Women of Achievement award, all distinguished in their own right: June Clark, real estate agent; Linda Garner, executive director of the Safe House for Women; Jane Randol Jackson, retired teacher and county archivist; Cheryl Kluepper, executive director of the Southeast Missouri chapter of the American Red Cross; Denise Lincoln, former director of the Family Resource Center; Vida Mays, director of pre-collegiate programs at Southeast Missouri State University; Carol Sparkman, nurse; and Cheryl Wormington, lactation consultant.
Congratulations to all of the honorees, and thanks to Zonta for its special program of recognition.
