The Jackson School District has used an orderly and straightforward process for bringing a $27 million bond issue before voters in Tuesday's elections.
The logic, community presentations, building tours and letters to the editor have been convincing.
Voters in the district have good reasons to support the bond issue.
For most communities, the quality of the local school district is a source of immense pride. No community has been more proud of its students, faculty, administrators and parents than the Jackson School District.
The district's reputation has been a major factor in Jackson's growth and prosperity for many years. The town's future image will continue to hinge in large part on school facilities and programs.
Generally, local taxpayers are willing to increase the taxes they pay when they are convinced there is a need and their money will be spent wisely.
The Jackson district has carefully laid out the needs for expanding and renovating the high school campus. For homeowners in houses valued at $100,000, taxes would go up an estimated $128 a year -- or about $10 a month extra in mortgage payments that include escrow accounts for taxes and insurance.
Education is an all-important part of the foundation under the values and potential of local communities. Voting yes on the Jackson School District bond issue will demonstrate essential bedrock support.
