Y2K EVE: MAKE PLANS NOW

For those who are looking for a spectacular way to usher in the new millennium, a party at the Show Me Center is the place to be.

The gala being put together by Judy Wilferth, Melvin Gateley and others is expected to cost more than $100,000 before all is said and done. It will feature dinner, dancing, two bands, all the accessories and even an indoor fireworks display. Party-goers will watch celebrations from around the world on a large video screen.

The idea for the Y2K Eve Party was born almost two years ago. A committee of 20 Cape Girardeans has been planning for the event for the past six months.

It is too bad the party will be limited to 1,000 people, for it will be a New Year's Eve celebration that won't soon be forgotten. It also is too bad that the party will cost $100 a person, because that will exclude a lot of people who might like to go. But even at that price, organizers aren't sure they will break even.

For those who can't make the Y2K Eve Party, there will be many other turn-of-the-century events available to them. After all, no one should pass up the opportunity to ring in the year 2000, for it will be a one-in-lifetime opportunity.
