Women's contributions recognized

Five outstanding women were recently honored with the 2003 Women's Impact Award from the Girl Scouts of Otahki Council and St. Francis Medical Center. Theese are the women who succeed at making the community a better place.

Barbara Blanchard, for whom the newest elementary school in Cape Girardeau was named.

Kathy Brown, plant manager at Procter & Gamble.

Mary Burton, executive director of the Southeast Missouri Red Cross.

Mary Spell of St. Francis Medical Center.

Marcia Southard-Ritter, on the General Board of Global Ministries United Methodist Church a member of the Cape Girardeau City Council.

These women join past recipients Jo Ann Emerson, Robyn Hosp, Mary-Ann Maloney, Carrie Smith Padgett, Kathy Swan, Tamara Zellars Buck, Rebecca McDowell Cook, Mary Kasten, Jean Bell Mosley and Marybelle Mueller.

They're in good company.
