Win-win-win solution offered for CHS street

A win-win opportunity has been overlooked in regard to the name of the road that goes in front of Central High School and the Career & Technology Center.

The functional and architectural front of the high school is the part that faces the parking lot, not the Silver Springs Road frontage. Rename the drive that leads to the parking lots and change the street address of Central to No. 1 Tiger Pride Lane. It is not so unusual to have a home or a business located on a private drive. The vocational center would retain its Silver Springs address and, hence, the feeling of autonomy.

From the start, I've been convinced that nobody who drives around the new Central High School would ever consider the Silver Springs entrance to be the front. Perhaps the Silver Springs address was chosen originally because being located on a main artery would make the school easier to locate by out-of-towners. But any school exists primarily for the use of local residents. Any newcomer who locates the school by using the Silver Springs address will still have to drive around the building to find the functional front of the school.

Making the changes I suggest would correct three things: the vocational school retains a district-neutral address, CHS gets an address that reflects its pride and Central's address will direct visitors to the side of the building that people actually use as an entrance. That's a win-win-win.
