To the editor:"When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which connect them with another ... ." We recognize these words as the beginning of our Declaration of Independence. It later continues, "Whenever any form of Government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it." Is the form of government currently being practiced by political leaders of both parties the same as our Founding Fathers envisioned when they signed their declaration?
Did the Founding Fathers envision a time when all three branches of government would ignore the will of the people when their causes are just? Did they visualize a time when all three branches of government would restrict the freedom of speech for its citizens with the McCain-Feingold campaign-finance bill? What about the immigration bill before Congress? What about the hundreds of rulings by the Supreme Court that blatantly violate the Constitution as envisioned by our Founders?
Would those same 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence feel a need to once again apply their signatures to another declaration? Would they today feel once again the need to dissolve the political bands of a government that no longer listens to the legitimate will of the people? Is it time for another revolution? Wake up, America.
