What's a dollar worth now?

To the editor:

I've seen changes of many kinds over the years of my life. I've seen a house that we paid $12,500 for originally sell for over $110,000, and that was rock bottom. I've seen parks that we use to go to when I was a child turn into a haven for perverts. I've heard politicians' promises about how things are going to be better if they are elected, but things get worse or stay the same. I've seen five wars in six decades. True, some weren't called wars. But I never thought that a candy bar I paid a nickel for when I was a kid would cost over a dollar as an adult. So tell me: Does that mean that a dollar is only worth a nickel now?
